GoodReads Summary:

For Princess Mia, the past five years since college graduation have been a whirlwind of activity, what with living in New York City, running her new teen community center, being madly in love, and attending royal engagements. And speaking of engagements. Mia’s gorgeous longtime boyfriend Michael managed to clear both their schedules just long enough for an exotic (and very private) Caribbean island interlude where he popped the question! Of course Mia didn’t need to consult her diary to know that her answer was a royal oui.

But now Mia has a scandal of majestic proportions to contend with: Her grandmother’s leaked “fake” wedding plans to the press that could cause even normally calm Michael to become a runaway groom. Worse, a scheming politico is trying to force Mia’s father from the throne, all because of a royal secret that could leave Genovia without a monarch. Can Mia prove to everyone–especially herself–that she’s not only ready to wed, but ready to rule as well?

My Review:

Getting my hands on this book meant the absolute world to me. The first time I read the first Princess Diaries book was when I was 12 years old. I am now 27 years old so you know how long I’ve been reading Meg Cabot and how much these books truly mean to me. I’ve been trying to get my hands on this book for ages and I legitimately cried when I did.

This book is exactly what I could have ever wanted in a final PD book. I’ve been waiting since I was twelve years old for Mia and Michael to live happily ever and in this book…we actually get to see this happen. It’s like…legitimately a fairy tale coming true! I’ve always loved the two of them together and loved that they managed to end up together in the end…as they should!

But it’s more than that! I grew up with Mia Thermopolis. I’ve always felt incredibly close to her as a character, she’s also felt very familiar and relatable. I’ve always wanted to find my own Michael Moscovitz. I followed her through her awkwardness of high school, figuring out friends and boys and school and all of that. I love revisiting the books but this book was amazing. It was written for us that have been around for years. Mia has grown up and so have I and the rest of the fans. Reading Mia’s diary again, as an adult, with problems that I legitimately understand because we are basically the same age. I loved it. I loved seeing them get engaged and having sex and growing up, renting apartments, doing adult things. It felt so weird but so right.

But I also loved that Mia was still SO Mia. She’s grown up but she’s still also awkward and she still does silly things and freaks out over the small things and I love it. I also love that there were surprises in the story that I didn’t expect and it was awesome. I was both extremely happy and bittersweet while reading this book.

Lastly I liked that we got to meet Olivia, Mia’s sister from Mia’s point of view. I have already read Olivia’s story but it was cool to read it from Mia’s side. Olivia sees Mia as cool and sophisticated and mature during the whole thing while we get to be in Mia’s head while she legitimately is like, what on earth is going on and I’m confused and what the hell do I do? It’s so Mia and I liked every bit of it. There was so much newness in this book, and honestly I thought it was an amazing end to the series. I thought Princess Diaries 10 was great and a fabulous ending but this one was just straight up perfect. I can’t imagine a better book to end one of my absolute favorite series!

Tuesday Top Ten – Underrated YA Book Series

So I was  browsing around Facebook yesterday when I came across a Buzzfeed article about the 29 Underrated YA Book Series. Of course I had to click on it.

And while I love several of the choices on that list, no rx I thought, try I should do my own list. There are GREAT series on there, but a lot of them aren’t what I would call underrated or unnoticed. Percy Jackson? Huge. HUGE. And they got two movies. Infernal Devices? Again. HUGE. All Souls? Incredibly popular and not YA right? I don’t know to be honest, I haven’t read them. I know they aren’t shelved with YA. The Chicken Soup series? Didn’t everyone have those when I was in middle school/high school? And so on.

So that brings us to today’s Tuesday Top Ten…my favorite YA series that just don’t get enough attention. Which is why I’m talking about them. So they get more attention. Because I’m just awesome that way.

Let’s do this.

Oh, I’ll add one more thing. All of these get GREAT reviews, and have received an abundance of praise and accolades and all the huge reviewers and all that love them. By “underrated” I mean, by the masses that tend to enjoy YA. The people that don’t much more than Hunger Games and Divergent and that sort of thing.

Moving on…

10. The Across the Universe Trilogy by Beth Revis

15761655

I love love love this series. Beth Revis takes humanity, sticks them on a space ship and gets them lost for centuries. Humanity has basically all but disappeared on this ship until one of the humans who was supposed to be frozen until they arrive at this “new” earth awakes…and chaos and romance and all sorts of things erupt. Its fantastic. There is just SO much about this series that is so good. I have a hard time finding people who have read it and I get so excited when I do!

9. The Covenant Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout

9680718

So JLA was on this BuzzFeed list, but with the Lux series. That series, the Wait for You series and the Dark Elements series…they’re all fairly popular. They are the ones that I feel like people talk about when it comes to JLA. But my absolute favorite of her series is hands down The Covenant series. SO freakin good! Alex and Aidan are hot as hell, they have a steamy and intense and fun romance, and their world is chaotic and full of action and drama and …more intensity. And its Greek mythology with a new twist and I love every single bit of it.

8. The Mediator Series by Meg Cabot

604745

Meg Cabot is not exactly underrated but she has so many series that often times some of them get lost underneath the ones she’s really known for like The Princess Diaries. This is one of my absolute favorites by her. It has ghosts! And a girl who likes to beat them up when they don’t want to cooperate. And a super hot Spanish ghost that’s a really great kisser. Its just awesome. The entire series is just SO flippin good. Meg manages to write this amazing paranormal romance that also makes you laugh again and again and again.

7. The Seven Realms Series by Cinda Williams Chima

6342491

This series was actually on the list and it was one of the few that I really agreed should be on this list. I first picked up this list when my ex told me to pick out a book and I thought the cover was beautiful and then I proceeded to consume the entire series in a matter of days. Its so beautifully written and it has everything you could want in a book. It has romance and action and politics and action and humor and discovery and uncertainty and god…everything. I can’t speak highly enough of this series. Its legitimately one of my favorites ever.

6. The Gemma Doyle Trilogy by Libba Bray

3682

UGH. God. This series. I’m meeting Libba for the first time this weekend at YALL West, and I legit can’t handle that kind of pressure. I’m going to cry or something. I actually accidentally picked up the second book first (whoops) but rectified and continued on to enjoy this beautiful trilogy. It takes place in Victorian English countryside at a boarding school that is hiding all sorts of secrets. Its so dark but funny at the same time and its full of a new kind of magic and I love every bit of it. I need a re-read of this soon actually…

5. The Girl of Fire and Thorns Series by Rae Carson

10429092

Let’s put it this way: I would not drive all the way to Vegas (about a 4 to 5 hour drive) just to meet her for one day if I didn’t think this series was that amazing. What makes this great is that its this sort of Chosen One story but the Chosen One is the last person you’d expect. Elisa is fat and uncertain and unsure and you kind sit there and think, her? Really? But its just so great. And the world building and the magic and the evolution of the main character throughout the three books…my little book loving heart just can’t handle the beauty of this trilogy.

4. The Song of the Lioness Quartet by Tamora Pierce

13831

There WAS a series by Tammy on the list but I chose this one for a huge reason: its the first series of the epicness of the Tortall world. The one they chose is the third one and kind of…spoils the first two series for sure. haha. Plus let’s face it…Tammy has a handle on this YA fantasy since the early 80s and just not enough people are reading her. She’s amazing. Her writing, the characters she creates, the way she manages to keep the world of Tortall alive after so many decades…its impossible not to absolutely love her. This series is about a girl who disguises her gender for YEARS in order to become a knight, and then basically does whatever the hell she wants once everyone finds out. YES. I want to shove all of her books down all of your throats. Sorry. Not really.

3. The Airhead Trilogy by Meg Cabot

2213324

Why, yes, I did pick two Meg Cabot series. This is another one that kind of disappears when it comes to Meg. But its legitimately my favorite. Besides Princess Diaries. Because its just SO weird and bizarre and I love it. Em Watts dies…but not really. At the same time as her body dies, supermodel Nikki Howard as a brain aneurysm. Doctors save her life by implanting her brain into Nikki’s body, but she has to live her life as Nikki and no one can know that she was once Em. Its seriously the most bizarre thing ever, especially once you realize there’s so much more to it than meets the eye. And its just straight up hilarious.

2. The Unremembered Trilogy by Jessica Brody

9791892

The finale of this trilogy just released less than two months ago and I’m still reeling from it. I can barely express my emotions about it. Sigh. Anyway. This is a series that’s absolutely incredible and seriously does NOT get enough credit. I want to see more of those purple books in people’s hands. Seriously. I can’t even explain how great this trilogy is. Its like…Bourne Identity but with a super badass girl instead of Matt Damon and it has superhumans called Ex-Gens and time travel and cool technology and romance and action and its just amazing. There are not nearly enough people reading it and you guys need to be reading it. Now. Go.

1. The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo

10194157

I love Leigh from the bottom of my heart to the tip top of my head all the way to my little toes. She’s AMAZING and her series just proves that. She has had SUCH success with it, but its nothing to the extend that a ton of people know about it and I want to change that. Her trilogy is perfection and its such a great example of how AMAZING YA fantasy…and YA in general…can be. She’s a terrific writer and a fabulous storyteller. This is another series that needs a re-read soon because now all I can think about is how much I love these books!

8. A Court of Thorn and Roses by Sarah J Maas

16096824

Sarah J Maas is a queen when it comes to fantasy and while I’ve been enjoying her Throne of Glass series SO much, I’m excited to read something new from her as well. She’s such a fun person to meet (our arguments of Sarah vs Sara are fabulous) and she truly is just incredibly talented. I’m eagerly awaiting this new series!

Release Date: May 5th, 2015

7. Awakening by Shannon Duffy

22514518

I’ve already read this book. Its a fresh new science fiction/dystopian sort of world and the characters are super lovable and I loved everything about it. This one comes out VERY soon so get your hands on it now!

Release Date: April 7th, 2015

6. Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen

23009402

Come on, its Sarah Dessen. Sign me up every single time. Her last few releases haven’t been, well, fabulous but she’s a great writer, period so I’m excited for her new book nonetheless. I’ve read every single one of her books since I was 13 years old so I really have no plans in stopping any time soon.

Release Date: May 5th, 2015

5. Kissing Ted Callahan (And Other Guys) by Amy Spalding

18333999

Another release that I’ve already read so I can say with full confidence that I am so excited for it to come out next week and for all of you to get your hands on it. Its hilarious and SO familiar. Who hasn’t had their fair share of guy confusion? I know this girl definitely has (and why does that not go away when you get older…) and its seriously so great. Amy’s a great writer so I definitely highly recommend this one next week!

Release Date: April 7th, 2015

4. Revenge, Ice Cream and Other Things Best Served Cold by Katie Finn

22019274

And yet another book that I have already read. I absolutely adore Katie Finn and I swear it has NOTHING (okay maybe a little something) to do with the fact that I love love love Morgan Matson ;) Her Broken Hearts and Revenge series is SO fun, like a summer teen drama where you’re basically waiting on the edge of your seat for things to just EXPLODE. This book was great and I literally canNOT wait for book three! Plus the new covers are so cute!

Release Date: May 5th, 2015

3. The Heir by Kiera Cass

Release Date: May 5th, 2015

2. A Girl Undone by Catherine Linka

23014305

I’m about halfway through this book and I’m already absolutely in love with this book. The first book was fabulous, of course, but there’s just something about this second book. A lot has changed and its reflected in the writing and the storytelling and its just so beautiful so far. Tuesday Top Ten – Fictional Characters I’d Invite to My Birthday Party!

I really actually wanted to write this post, generic because in just a few days, viagra 40mg its going to be my BIRTHDAY!

And I’m quite excited about that. I have an awesome day planned with a ton of my super awesome friends (and by a ‘ton’, I mean, like, all five of them!) and I’m getting really excited for it.

But it helped me come up with this week’s topic: characters I would invite to my birthday party. You know, if I could.

10. Simon Lewis from The Mortal Instruments

tumblr_mum74xKUJY1qzg2sjo1_250

When I think Simon Lewis, I think…he’s gotta be one of the best boyfriend there is. He tells you the story of Star Wars while you’re falling asleep? Come on, that’s amazing. Which means that he’ll be such an awesome party planner. He’ll throw the nerdiest party and he’ll get you the best gift. Hands down. Plus if its Robbie Sheehan as Simon, I’m sold.

9. Percy Jackson from Percy Jackson and the Olympians

Seaofmonsters

Two words: Blue. Food. COME ON. Blue Coke and Blue chocolate chip cookies and just BLUE food. I love the color blue and something about blue food just makes me so happy haha. Plus Percy is hilarious and he’ll probably invite Annabeth and Grover and the rest and we know those Greeks know how to throw a party.

8. Ryan Dean West from Winger

9625778

Winger is one of the funniest books that I’ve read and that comes down to Ryan Dean. He’s hilarious and real and he seems like he would be the greatest friend to have. Sure, he would make stupid mistakes or say stupid things but aren’t all best friends like that? I think so. But I think he would throw the most terrific party and he would come up with a great gift and he would make sure you had the most wonderful time.

7. Gandalf the Grey

tumblr_inline_mha8ui4U7G1qz4rgp

FIREWORKS! I’m just saying. Gandalf will bring his party favors and it’ll be wonderful. Gandalf just seems like he would be an epic time. He sure made Bilbo’s eleventy-first birthday pretty awesome so I’m sure he’ll make my 27th pretty cool too.

6. Sirius Black

Sirius-Black-harry-potter-30733374-500-207

Okay, I know that sounds kind of weird because the Sirius Black we knew was mostly kind of moody haha but he partied pretty hard when everyone spent Christmas at Grimmauld Place and I just feel like…he would be down for an epic party. Like, if I knew Sirius Black when he was a teenager at Hogwarts, I bet he’d be the guy that knew where all the cool parties were taking place and knew where to sneak some firewhiskey and all that fun stuff. He would be THAT guy but I think I want THAT guy at my birthday party.

5. Adrian Ivashkov

Adrian-Ivashkov-vampire-academy-30960303-500-250

Its my party and I’ll do whatever I want. And what I want is a pretty boy to make out with ;) And there’s no better pretty boy to make out with at your party than Adrian Ivashkov. And let’s face it, boy knows how to throw a party. He knows the good stuff. He put together a seriously fast wedding for him and Sydney that was seriously awesome so I totally believe that he’d throw me a pretty awesome birthday party.

4. Mia Thermopolis

princess23

The first thing I thought of when I was making a list of fictional characters to come to my birthday party was Mia and her birthday party that she threw in one of the books. She wanted to be all grown up so she did a sexy dance and wore a beret or something and drank, like, three sips of a beer and it was just awkward and a disaster. That sounds exactly like the kind of party I would throw haha. Like, I would just want to throw a party with friends and it would become THAT. So that’s why I want Mia at my party. Because she’d just get me.

3. Rose Hathaway

tumblr_n4plv2z7SE1qbp7ebo7_r1_250

Okay can we just talk about how absolutely beautiful Zoey is in this GIF. MYGOD.

Rose is awesome, she’s badass, she knows how to have fun, she’s beautiful as hell (both fictionally and adapted by Zoey Deutch) and I just want her at my party. I would find a way to make her my girlfriend by the end of the party. I would dress in my best party dress and I would convince her by the end of the party that she likes me way more than she likes Dimitri. LOL. Plus, let’s think about it: she’s an awesome character, I feel like she and I would legitimately get along in real life, and she could teach me some badass moves. And if anything were to happen at my party, she could totally protect me.

2. Jace Wayland Morgenstern Herondale Lightwood

Jace-jace-wayland-33075537-500-210

He’s my boyfriend. My fictional boyfriend. So he needs to be at my birthday party, at my side, making me look good. LOL. And remember in City of Bones when he talks about eating faerie food or something…hold on, let me find the quote. AH, found it:

“Don’t order any of the faerie food,” said Jace, looking at her over the top of his menu. “It tends to make humans a little crazy. One minute you’re munching a faerie plum, the next minute you’re running naked down Madison Avenue with antlers on your head. Not,” he added hastily, “that this has ever happened to me.”

Do I really need to say more than that?

1. The Doctor

9sc4eo

Bananas. Ties around his head. Dancing all crazy at Amy and Rory’s wedding. I could go on. The Doctor is a party animal and I completely approve of that. He NEEDS to be at my birthday party. He’s hundreds of years old so he’s been to a lot of parties which means he knows how to party. He brings bananas to parties and he’s just awesome. I want the Doctor there. Plus maybe after my birthday party, he’ll whisk me away on an epic adventure. That would be a pretty fabulous birthday present.

Also, yes, yes I do have two number one answers. Its my birthday (almost) and I’ll do whatever I want)

1. Magnus Bane

tumblr_n4aqoarxsg1svno5wo1_500

Magnus Bane threw an absolutely amazing and fabulous birthday party….for his CAT. So you know, I feel like he would throw a pretty damn awesome party for my birthday. He’s fabulous as hell, he’ll throw glitter all over the place and have yummy drinks that hopefully don’t have the weird quality of turning people into rats haha. But come on! Magnus Bane is one big party even when the entire world is going to shit. He’s awesome. He keeps things going. He’s been around for years, and he got to party during the most awesome times, like the 1920s, and so I trust him to bring a super great party to my birthday!
